KMP Nursery

A small family owned native plant nursery, nestled in the heart of Wharekauri Station. Managed and operated by Marion and Paul Smith, with over 30 years of experience and knowledge, the nursery focuses and specialises in the propagation and production of Chatham Island native trees and plants. The nursery also produces a variety of NZ natives and exotics.

The nursery began life 18 years ago with a modest order of 400 Chatham Island Ake Ake from the local Department of Conservation office here on the island. That relationship continues to this day, producing a wide variety of Chatham Island native plant and tree seedlings for DOC restoration projects around the main island and its offshore islands.

The nursery has continued to grow and develop, expanding not only its customer network, but also the variety of species it produces, whether you are a keen hobby gardener or have a large restoration development contract. The nursery prides itself on producing a high quality, robust and harden seedling ready for planting.
